Skimboarders are extremely athletic. That shouldn’t be debated. The running. The board placement (then balance) as they carry frictionless speed into the ocean where they usually pull a massive hack on the face of a shore-pounding wave, throwing spray wildly into the air. But then there’s the other side. Skimboarders take some absolute beatings, mostly because they’re surfing the weirdest, reforming shorebreak you’ll find in the sea. Only skimboarders attack the Wedge, for example, with such a unique approach. But if you charge crazy waves often enough, you’re going to get smacked down. Hence the piece above from the YouTube page thisismov. It’s not all beatdowns – there are some gems in there – but it certainly reminds us how shallow the water is where skimboarders ply their craft.
