On February 21, Pipeline wasn’t the only place going off. Nazaré was too. It wasn’t any old day at Portugal’s most famous big wave. It was the day Gigantes de Nazare was filmed, which is a televised event where surfers compete for the best performance and the biggest wave of the day.
Most of the usual suspects were there, including Lucas Chumbo, Lucas Fink, Rodrigo Koxa, and many more, and Barena Film & Sports decided they point their lenses at the surfers, pore through the footage, and pick the top 10 best waves of a day full of good waves. One surfer made a little more impact than the rest.
“Lucas Chumbo stands out as always above the rest of the surfers,” they wrote, “proving once again that he is several steps ahead of the rest.
Although some may find it hard to say and others to admit, it’s a matter of seeing his waves in each swell to realize that this is the plain truth.”
