The coast of Southern California is under siege. A powerful El Niño — that’s still ramping up — combined with a Kelvin wave sweeping through the Pacific is creating ocean conditions not seen for most people’s lifetimes. And the guys over at BEEFS T.V. have been documenting it.

In the 18-minute video you see here, there are clips from San Clemente, Newport, and Laguna Beach. While it’s been a bit of a boon for surfers, it has been decidedly bad for just about everyone else, especially those living on the coast.

Parts of the iconic Pacific Coast Highway are in danger of crumbing. Houses are in danger of falling into the sea. Streets have flooded, and beaches have sucked back into the ocean.

“Historic beach erosion continues during the start of this El Nino season,” wrote BEEFS T.V.’s Chris Monroe. “Some of the surge waves were like nothing I have ever seen here in San Clemente.”
