Maverick’s is not a place for the faint of heart. As Jeff Clark, Mav’s pioneer, once said, “It’s not a wave for everybody. As soon as you think you’re all that and a bag of chips, it’ll show you that you’re not.”
It’s a wave for people who are dedicated to Maverick’s. Big wave lineups are a little different than your everyday surf spot — everything is a little more concentrated. A little more focused. It’s a family affair, especially at Mav’s. But, with inflatable vests and JetSkis, the lineup is getting a little more crowded. It’s still the same wave, but the secret is definitely out. Above you’ll see Maverick’s doing its thing on Friday the 13th. It’s mostly unedited, which is interesting — raw footage feels a little more real than a tightly packed surf edit. And if its Maverick’s we’re talking about, it’s as real as real gets.
