The Inertia

Over the last little while, Skeleton Bay has played host to a larger percentage of world-class surfers than usual. It was pretty all-time, too, so having that percentage kicking around Namibia’s freak of a wave made for a pretty damn good show. Among those surfers were people like Jamie O’Brien, Koa Smith, Nate Florence, Craig Anderson, Noah Beschen, Ivan Florence, and . As is generally the case with lineups the world ’round, there were a handful of stickerless rippers, too.

The place was packed, which, considering the travel required to get yourself to Skeleton Bay, must have been a little bit of a downer. But the good thing about the place is that the wave itself and the ripping current generally keeps things pretty spaced out.

“There are about fifty cars here already and about four people per car,” said Jamie. “There are a lot of people here, but I don’t think that’s going to affect us today.”

And you know what? It didn’t. Jamie, along with just about everyone else who made the long trek, absolutely scored.
