Several weeks ago we reported that Earth Technologies (the South Bay-LA surfboard and SUP manufacturer) had monumental news. They were to become the first zero-waste production facility in the world.

In fact, before the big announcement, Ryan Harris who helms Earth Technologies sent me a text. “We’re making a huge announcement in the next coming weeks that’s going to a radical new system in my eco board factory that is going to change the industry!” he said.

A week later, he gave me the scoop (which you can read about in detail here). In addition to operating a board recycling and deposit program, Ryan found an unlikely solution to some of the smallest most difficult-to-deal-with waste products in mealworms. It sounds too good to be true: mealworms that eat EPS foam and wood and poop out organic soil.

But to make this dream a reality, Earth Technologies recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the transition to zero-waste.
