The Inertia

Aaron Gold is a bonafide North Shore charger. It’s a dangerous place, though, even on smaller waves, as many can attest to after one of the most violent winters in recent memory. Gold found that out first hand when he dropped into a Gas Chambers left hander. “It happened kicking out of a 4 footer at gas chambers left,” he explained via email. “Basically, I straightened out as it was starting to close out and kicked the board to the left, flopped to right and somehow bounced into the bottom.”

What happened next is gross. “One big hit, and I could feel the flap, so grabbed it and put it back in place,” Gold remembered.  From there, he did the smart thing and headed straight the hospital. Once there, he received 18 staples, 6-7 stitches inside, 8-9 stitched outside.

Gold ain’t sweating it, though: “Super thankful no head trauma or serious neck and back issues. Basically scalped, just with new scar and fresh hair cut.” With an attitude like that, he’ll be back in the water just as soon as he’s healed.
