If you surf, you’re going to fall. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It’s inevitable. And if you surf Pipeline, you’re going to fall in some bad places and probably in some bad positions. Take, for example, the unidentified surfer in Off Da Lip’s latest YouTube upload. He gets a little hung up in the lip, hits the eject button, and almost — almost — doesn’t land flat on his stomach. But then, as the title suggests, he does. Belly flops at Pipeline aren’t a common sight, and we can guess why.
“This unidentified hellman went for broke on this wave,” wrote Off Da Lip. “As he was about to stand up, the wave jacked up on the reef and pitched outward, leaving him no choice but to bail. His board was caught in the lip, and forced his body to rotate to a position where he was forced to perform the heaviest belly flop I’ve seen on a wave. Thankfully he was able to walk away from this unscathed.”
