Just a few weeks ago, North America’s first Wavegarden Cove opened in Virginia Beach. Called Atlantic Park, the wave pool is a pretty amazing place that Jacob Szekely called “the best surf park in America.” Already, they’ve announced the first surf contest at the park: the aptly named Chlorine Clash.
The pool has timed the contest to land in between two of the most iconic East Coast surfing events, the Virginia Beach East Coast Surfing Championship (ECSC) and the Outer Banks Pro, and they’ve got quite the lineup of competitors.
The format takes eight of the WSL’s top qualifying series men and women, as well as eight wild cards, and puts them head-to-head in a winner take-all event.
“Our goal at Atlantic Park Surf is to bring new contest formats and new events to the Virginia Beach surf community,” said Blake Hess, COO of Beach Street Development, the surf park’s operator. “The Chlorine Clash will be the first of many ways we activate Atlantic Park Surf.”
Running on Aug. 25 from 8 to 11 p.m., the event benefits the Waterman’s Dream Inc. charity.
