Puerto Escondido and big, hollow waves go together like peanut butter and jelly. That’s probably why it’s been the perfect breeding ground for the talent of Barchi Quadros, a waterman who pushes big wave bodysurfing to unthinkable levels.
Barchi grew up surfing but by the time he was 10, he was introduced to sliding around inside waves on his belly. He would throw on a pair of fins and go for a swim through the lineup at Mexi Pipe after school on small days until eventually, he just wasn’t interested in surfboards anymore.
As you can see, that switch worked out just fine for him.
