The Inertia

Like it or not, the South Bay of Los Angeles ranks pretty low on the totem pole compared to other surf zones in California – despite the region’s many contributions to surf culture and history. From Santa Barbara to the north to San Clemente and San Diego to the south, the region often gets overlooked during a pulsing swell. Locals, though, prefer it that way.

Last week, some healthy North Pacific energy lit up the Southland (with more on the way!) and the South Bay had no shortage of heaving barrels on offer. And a surplus of barrels means a surplus of barrels to dodge. Not to poke fun at anyone’s expense, here, but it’s impossible not to armchair quarterback a few of these waves thinking “stall!” or “pull in!”

As with all things, though, that’s easier said than done.
