Slushy surfing is definitely a novelty. It’s about as novelty as it gets. If the waves had actually been a decent size, this would have been a total score, but it was a super fun experience either way.
Slushy waves are actually kind of dangerous, though. There’s a lot of stuff floating just under the surf that you can’t always see. I’d be paddling my ass off for a tiny slushy nug and I’d end up paddling right into a three-by-three-foot block of ice. If these were waves were of consequential size there would be ice chunks flying over you in the lip, and that could get sketch.
