Even though Hurricane Erin didn’t actually make landfall, it still managed to wreak a lot of havoc on land. Despite pleas from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to stay out of the water, Ben Gravy decided he needed to test those waters.
Hurricane Erin was a behemoth. According to some reports, it was twice the size of an average hurricane. At least two people died as a result of it (in Hew Hampshire and New York), and as of this writing, a third man is missing off the Massachusetts coast after his boat capsized.
“The first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Hurricane Erin, was a doozy,” wrote The Weather Channel, “having undergone explosive rapid intensification from a tropical storm to Category 5 intensity in just under 30 hours.”
As one would expect from a massive hurricane spinning off the coast, the waves it produced were very, very big. Ben Gravy called it a solid 15-20 feet, and he couldn’t resist the call.
“This thing hit harder than we could have ever imagined,” he wrote. “I’m stoked to share the rest of the story!”
