The nominees for men’s ride of the year are in for the the 2024-2025 Big Wave Challenge, and this will be a tough year to pick the winners.
The Big Wave Challenge (BWC) is an interesting idea. Historically, big wave events have been a little tough to watch. Big wave surfing requires lots of patience and lots of waiting, so an event that attempts to show how incredible big wave surfing can be, sometimes shows all that patience and waiting. Which is not super entertaining. But the Big Wave Challenge came up with a solution.
“The new Big Wave Challenge is a fresh take on the tradition of providing a ‘town square’ for the best athletes and content creators to gather together and share what they do with the world,” BWC explains. “All year long the surfers surf and the shooters shoot and at the end of the season the crew gets together and celebrates the best waves and the best performances as captured on video and still photos.”
The nominees for the 2024-2025 Men’s Ride of the Year are shown here, and as I mentioned, choosing the best ride will be a real task. Who’re you going with? Kipp Caddy at Jaws, Tom Myers at Queenscliff Bombie, Australia, or Alo Slebir at Maverick’s, California?
