Blair Conklin is a talented guy. If there’s any kind of lump of moving water and some kind of board to stand on, it’s likely that he’ll be able to do something fun. And in Brazil, he proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Conklin was in Ubatuba for the most recent stop on the United Skim Tour, which took place at Sununga Beach, a pretty little cove on the northeast coast of São Paulo. It’s well-known in the skimboarding world because of the crazy wedge it produces.
“[It] is home to one of the most miraculous wedging waves we have ever seen,” Conklin said. “An almost unnatural looking rock wall converts the energy of a wave from one direction into another with almost perfect efficiency. When one wave crashes into the rock wall, another wave with almost the same energy bounces off and travels perpendicular to the beach. There is really no other wave like this in the entire world.”
