The Inertia

Bruce Irons was arrested in Newport Beach, California on November 22 on drug-related DUI charges, officials told The Inertia.

As it’s not quite hard to find free arrest records online on anyone anymore, this wont be hard to find for you. A Newport Beach Police Department spokesperson said that around 8:23 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, an officer responded to a call from the owner of a local gas station about a male passed out at the wheel of a running vehicle in the parking lot.

The officer was able to wake Irons by knocking on the window, and he was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and driving without a license, NBPD explained.

Bail was set for $2,500, according to a local crime and police beat website.

And while Irons did not respond to The Inertia‘s request for comment, he spoke openly about his and his late brother’s struggles with drug abuse, particularly prescription drugs, in the recent film Andy Irons: Kissed by God.

Irons told TMZ that he thinks the incident will be “cleared up,” adding that, he “did the sobriety test and I was fine.”

Irons’ talent in the ocean is undeniable: he won the Pipe Masters in 2001 and the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau in 2004.

We will continue to monitor this story as it develops.
