Good Friday at Burleigh Heads

The Inertia

Good Friday at Burleigh Heads was a good day to be a surfer indeed. A solid pulse of swell fired up the famous point, and, since Good Friday is a public holiday in Australia, many workers didn’t have to work. And since there are a million workers who’d rather be surfing in that land of surfers, the only bad thing was the crowds.

One would imagine, though, that at a place like Burleigh Heads, the crowds are part and parcel of the whole surfing experience. If you’re surfing somewhere, it’s hard to remind yourself that you are part of the crowd you hate surfing with, isn’t it?

Just a few waves under the belt at a place like Burleigh Heads on a day like Good Friday would make up for all the annoyance of dodging the sea of humans paddling around in the actual sea, and that’s why everyone keeps coming back.
