Fresh off a win at Pipeline and the f-bomb heard ‘round the world, the 18-year-old California prodigy Caity Simmers found some time to sit down in the editing bay and upload a new video to her YouTube channel, Toasted Media. The edit, simply titled 760 (the Oceanside area code), puts her local surf scene on display as Caity trades waves with friends during a classic San Diego morning of chilly, offshore winds grooming O-side’s sandbars.
While Caity’s quickly progressing talent is one of the most exciting things happening in surfing right now, I also get a kick out of watching Caity’s personality and creativity show through in her editing. Between her stylish hacks and turns, she has some fun with the edit and sprinkles in lifestyle shots and unorthodox editing techniques that quite accurately exemplify the quirky nature of Oceanside, its surf scene, and Caity herself. If you’ve ever paddled out at the O-side pier, you get it.
“We don’t get much (sic) good days at home so when it happens it’s pretty great!” Caity explains in the video description.
Well, thanks Caity for taking the time to update your YouTube channel in the midst of celebrating your biggest event win to date. I think I can speak for all surf fans around the world, we’d like to see more of your freesurfs uploaded soon.
