The wave at Cape Solander, known until recent years to the surfing world simply as Ours and now as Cape Fear, is a stunningly beautiful place. It’s rugged and windswept, with steep cliffs jutting out of the sea. It’s a wild ocean out there off the coast of New South Wales, and recently, it was lit up by two things: a fiery orange sunrise and the first proper swell of the year.
“This session delivered everything,” reads the caption under this video posted to the Skymonkey YouTube page. “Thick, rolling slabs, late drops, brutal wipeouts, and some serious charging from a stacked lineup.”
When Cape Fear works, it’s not a place for the casual surfer. It’s a place for surfers who are looking for something a little more. Surfers like Lucas Chumbo, Lucas Fink, Tommy Myers, Lex O’Connor, and plenty of underground chargers who don’t care whether anyone knows their names.
Surf films these days are generally set to music, but sometimes, no music is necessary, especially with visuals like these.
“Shot entirely on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, this one is all about keeping it raw and immersive,” Skymonkey continued. “No music, just pure ocean energy. Wind, waves, and the sound of solid water detonating on the reef. If you’re into heavy water, cinematic drone angles, and authentic surf sessions without the fluff, this is one to watch all the way through.”
