Brazil has become a battleground for leading wave pool technologies. But instead of building pools and welcoming the public, developers in Brazil are building private pools reserved for those who can buy into properties or exclusive memberships — unless you’re a pro surfer.
After the Championship Tour stopped in Saquarema, the surfers took advantage of the break in competition and accepted offers to visit a few pools in São Paulo. Italo Ferreira, Jack Robinson, Kanoa Igarashi, João Chumbo, Kauli Vaast, Miguel Pupo, Tya Zebrowski, Luana Silva, and others traveled to the PerfectSwell pools of Boa Vista and São Paulo Surf Club in the Brazilian megapolis to sample the landlocked waves.
The CT crew surfed offshore barrels, double onshore air sections, and barrel-to-air section combinations. Unsurprisingly, Ferreira was the standout with his otherworldly airs that few others — if anyone — can replicate.
Getting reps at a surf park isn’t a bad idea during the six weeks of competition downtime. It’s good prep for the upcoming CT stop at the Abu Dhabi pool in November — if it happens.
