Chris Christenson surfboards

Chris Christenson knows surfboards. Listen to him for proof. Photo: YouTube//Screenshot

The Inertia

Chris Christenson makes very nice surfboards. Years ago, I borrowed one from Greg Long in Mexico and was immediately paralyzed with fear that I’d ding it. It was a beautiful thing — more art than surfboard to me — and I managed to ride it without damaging it. I also managed to realize why he’s a shaper in such high demand.

In this clip, Christenson walks Trip Forman through the re-release of the Christenson Submariner. It’s the fourth board in his mid-length lineup, and it’s his personal favorite.

Christenson knows what little tweaks to make and where to make them. He knows how those changes will play off each other and, if he knows how you surf, he knows how to make something that will make surfing more fun.
