The Inertia

Coco Ho is bonafide surfing royalty. She’s got it in her blood. Derek, Michael, Mason, all part of that family, too. In 2024, she decided that she’d fire up her own surfboard brand in collaboration with Matt Parker of Album Surf. Her label, XO Coco, has a simple premise: surfboards with stock dims that are made specifically for women.

There are a few boards featured in this edit: a 4’9″ Tryst Fish, a 5’3″ Carbon Bliss Twin and a 5’3.5″ Bliss Twin, a 5’4″ Proto Quad, a 5’8″ Aurora Thruster, a 5’10″ Aurora Thruster, and finally, a 6’4″ Halcyon Twin. That last one has special place in her heart.

“The Halcyon has been my ultimate favorite lately,” she told The Inertia in April of 2024. “You can kind of play around with that one as well, at different lengths. The one I was riding at pretty big Haleiwa was like 6’4″. We’ve even made a little 6’0″ version.”

It’s been a little over a year since the doors of XO Coco opened up. One of the perks of owning a surfboard brand as a professional surfer is that you’re able to ride for your own brand, test your own equipment, and hopefully, truly believe in what you’re doing. She’s not on tour these days, and she’s spent her time wisely.

“In her first full year riding her own surfboard brand, XO Coco, Coco Ho let the year unfold on her own terms — traveling, surfing, and trusting her boards in every lineup,” the description of her latest YouTube offering reads. “With a 3-4 board quiver from the line, Coco put her boards to the test across various continents and conditions. Featuring fun in France, South Africa, Abu Dahbi, and Hawaii.”

This 20-ish minute film is all Coco. Good waves, good energy, and a pure, unadulterated love for surfing.
