Craig Anderson’s style and a punchy left point are a perfect match. He can expertly read a wave gurgling down a shallow sand bar, consistently finding the tube. It looks like he’s surfing his home break. Park Dane Reynolds in the editing booth and you get Anderson’s latest must-see cut, “Defective Units.”
The 20 minutes of clips come from a month-long trip to South America, somewhere in Chile I reckon. It was part of the filming for an upcoming surf film DEFECT created for Former, the surf brand Reynolds and Anderson launched in 2017. By the looks of it, Anderson logged hours in the tube on that trip when he wasn’t messing around with an inflatable surf mat and precariously playing with knives (see 8:47 in the video above).
It’s been a decade since Anderson’s Hypto Krypto Kandui ride heard ‘round the world. He’s not in the spotlight as much as he was back then, so it’s always a treat to get some fresh Ando footage. Assuming these are the B clips, the full-release of DEFECT is looking to be shaping up nicely.
