The bodyboarding world is full of insane people doing insane things solely for the sake of doing them. They’ve quietly opened the doors to a whole slew of waves that surfers wouldn’t even sniff at. Davis Blackwell is one of those people.
Most every heavy, slabbing wave in Australia was first ridden by a bodyboarder. From Cyclops to Shipstern Bluff, they’ve paved many roads.
“To tell you the truth, boogie boarders found ‘em all,” said Justin “Jughead” Allport, a West Oz standup slab lunatic. “They left us going hunting, we just had to scathe, and go hanging around, hunting all the spots looking on Google and stuff. Most of the time we’d find out that boogie boarders had already been there for awhile. I know it sounds sad.”
