By now, you’ve surely heard of the shit show that is Lunada Bay. If you haven’t, you can get caught up here (and here and here and here!), but here it is in a nutshell (or least what it seems to be): Fully grown, rich, entitled surfers turn to high school bullying to keep a wave that’s not theirs to keep. Cops ignore it, cops get called out, a lawsuit ensues, etc. Whatever. In the end, it probably won’t amount to anything more than a show, and the rich, entitled pricks will continue to be rich, entitled pricks and have rich, entitled prick children. It’s the circle of life.

Those rich, entitled pricks have a stone fort down on the beach, which is actually pretty awesome. After all, who wouldn’t want their own private beach with their own private wave and a little clubhouse to enjoy it all from? Yesterday, though, work started on busting down the illegal stone fort at Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estates. The fort, which is complete with retaining walls, a patio, a fire pit, and a couple of benches, has been under construction for about 30 years, and has served as a place for the Bay Boys to drink beer, throw rocks, and wave their dicks around.

City officials helicoptered in jackhammers and compressors down the steep cliff face at the north end of Lunada to begin tearing down the fort. This week, they’ll demolish the entire thing. Officials expect the cleanup to be done by the weekend.

“That the city is moving forward with plans to take down the fort is indeed a good first step,” said Noaki Schwartz, a spokeswoman for the California Coastal Commission, which sought to have the shelter removed. “We will continue to work to make sure measures are put in place to ensure the public is not discouraged from enjoying Lunada Bay.”
