Dick Hoole must have an archive chock full of greatness, much of it unseen. The Australian photographer and filmmaker spent most of the 1970s and ’80s pointing his camera at some of surfing’s greats at some of surfing’s greatest waves. Hoole started out with the likes of Jack McCoy and ended up making a few of the most classic surf films of all time, such as In Search Of Tubular Swells and StormRiders. He shot mainly on 16 and 35 mm film. Hoole and MySurf.tv recently unearthed some incredible footage from 1977: pumping J-Bay with Shaun Tomson, Mark Warren, Chris ‘Critta’ Byrne, Tony White, Rick Rasmussen and Buzzy Kerbox.
