This isn’t a rescue you see often, but it still had a solid ending. Los Angeles County Lifeguards Tweeted this week that they had rescued a dog swimming some 600 years offshore near Nicolas State Beach. The lifeguard team launched a ski from Zuma to rescue the pup.

“Not your everyday ocean rescue, but we were sure happy to help this four-legged friend make its way back to the beach!” read the Tweet.

The department reminded people that dogs are not allowed on public beaches but it wasn’t immediately clear how the dog got so far out to sea in the first place. In the video, it looks as though the owners were there waiting for the dog when the lifeguards returned on the Jet Ski.
