The Inertia

When the Dumpster Diver hit the market, it made quite the splash. It was a weird looking thing, stubby and fat with a tail that looked like a narrowed thumb. Now, there’s a new version, the aptly named Dumpster Diver 2.

A lot of people I knew got them because Dane surfed them and, obviously, it was the board that made him surf as well as he did. And while it was a fun surfboard, I never fully got to love it as much as many others. But I was not the norm. The Dumpster Diver was a real hit. So Channel Islands decided all these years later that they ought to revamp it.

The idea for the Dumpster Diver 2  came when Dane was filming for  his”Out of the Rafters” edit for Chapter 11. He was on the original Dumpster Diver, and according to Channel Islands, “was tripping out how tiny and short the Dumpster Diver felt and wanted to build a longer, modernized version that still tapped into the magic of the original.”

And so they hit the shaping bay to try to do just that. “The DD2 has a wider nose and tail, more nose and tail rocker, and a more subtle single concave,” the team explains. “These updates, among other tweaks, allow the board to excel in a wider range of conditions, letting you rip as hard as you think you do.”
