Vans and Octopus, an old brand and a relatively new one, recently got together to make something awesome. It’s a short video, just one-and-half minutes, but it’s one-and-a-half minutes of Dylan Graves, Mikey February, and Harry Bryant doing things on waves that, quite frankly, shouldn’t be possible.
The edit is a good indicator of what Octopus is all about: chaotic, creative, and flat-out fun. “It’s literally a bunch of surf geeks hanging out, filming idea babies that Matt [Payne] and crew cook up — which is basically the whole brand in a nutshell,” Dylan Graves said about working on the film.
Harry Bryant had a bit of a rough time at the very beginning of the shoot, however. “When all the sample gear arrived at my house to shoot for the video,” he explained, “I was in the middle of moving and I accidentally took the box of gear to an Op Shop (thrift store),” he explained. “A few weeks later I was looking through the boxes and realized what I had done, so I went back to the Op Shop and purchased one of each item so we could shoot the product. I think people have been kicking around Wollongong in the Octopus-Vans collab gear for a few months now thanks to those boxes getting mixed up.”
In the end, though, it all worked out and surf fans have a quick edit that’ll turn the froth levels up.
