The Inertia

Dylan Graves has a passion for weird waves. So much of a passion, in fact, that he made a whole show about finding them and surfing them.

On a recent trip to Japan — a trip that likely involved surfing in some way, but didn’t involve what you see here — he heard about a weird wave. The wave breaks through a unique rock feature called God’s Crack.

“I was over in Japan shooting something else entirely when my friend I was cruising with, Keito Matsuoka, mentioned he had a weird wave for me… and lo and behold, there was this wave breaking between a very narrow crack in between two rocks,” Graves explained. “From the beach in didn’t really look doable, so we decided to paddle out and ‘have a look.'”

As you likely know, though, paddling out “having a look” is just another way of saying “yeah, we’re giving that a shot.” Which is exactly what Graves did.
