Swatch Nines is an interesting event, to say the least. Now an amalgamation of a bunch of different action sports, it began as something rooted in skiing and snowboarding. Over the years, though, it’s expanded into something unlike anything else. Dylan Graves, aficionado of weird waves ’round the world, had a chance to dip his toes in those eclectic waters, and he was a fan, to say the least.
“…the event is now expanding into new terrain, bringing together surfers, skaters, and BMX riders in one creative, no-rules playground,” Graves wrote. “I got the chance to experience this crossover firsthand, and in this video, I share what it was like to be part of this unique gathering, where athletes from totally different worlds come together, collaborate, and push each other forward.”
Although the antics are certainly a large part of the draw, Swatch Nines is about more than flying as high as possible. It’s about progression across all sports.
“This isn’t just about wild tricks or standout sessions (although there’s plenty of that),” Graves continued. “It’s about what happens when different forms of progression rub shoulders, from physical feats to experimental design to embracing failure as part of the process. It’s a celebration of experimentation concocted in the right setting to explore where the lines between surf, skate, snow, and bike are starting to blur… or potentially even be re-drawn.”
