The Inertia

Surf clips are a strange thing. Brands often create an advertisement, throw in a bunch of product placement, and pass it off as something other than an ad. And it works, because most of us love to watch surfing, so we look the other when there’s a one minute ad released as a new clip.

So when I got an email from Eddie Rothman, Da Hui Kingpin and North Shore scary-guy-who-is-actually-pretty-decent-in-real-life with the clip above, I assumed it was just going to be another ad, which, I suppose, it is. But what an ad! Instead of 30 seconds to a minute of average surfing with a bunch of logo close ups, it’s almost 4 minutes of the most insane drops the North Shore has to offer, followed by Uncle Eddie’s gravel-pit voice selling Da Hui’s wax. It’s good enough to be the center piece of any full length surf film. So yeah, it’s an advertisement… but it’s one worth watching.
