The Freshwater Pro is currently underway in Lemoore, California on the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley. The event is arguably the biggest pressure cooker on tour. Namely, because there are no sneaker sets, no mind games, and no priority paddle battles. Every competitor gets the same number of waves, no more no less – meaning their toughest competitor is the one between the ears.
To level the playing field a bit, the WSL allocates a number of practice waves to each surfer to test equipment and practice their “runs” (exactly two a day). And here, we see Kanoa Igarashi, Carissa Moore, Jordy Smith, Kolohe Andino, and Caroline Marks putting those few waves to good use.
