On July 31, Gabriel Medina married Isabella Arantes and took the moment to announce that they were expecting a child. Five days later, the couple confirmed that they lost the child after three months of pregnancy.
The three-time world champion first told Globo Esportes, a Brazilian news outlet, that the couple learned of the devastating news after a routine three-month ultrasound.
The news comes just days before Medina is set to resume his pursuit of a fourth world title at the Tahiti Pro, and days after Brazilian media reported that Medina would step away from the CT in 2027 to focus on his family. Medina did not confirm the sabbatical rumors.
Medina posted an image on his Instagram stories with the message, “Have faith, don’t rush.”
Medina had long expressed his dream to become a father. As the time of publication, he’s still listed in the draw for the Tahiti Pro. He hasn’t announced whether the news will affect his participation in the event or the 2027 season.
