Poor Gabs Medina. Between his strategic use of priority against Kelly Slater at last year’s Pipe Masters to enduring a Lowers splashing, not to mention a number of other burns captured on camera (see also one against Jordy in Fiji), the guy has accumulated his fair share of haters. And while his harshest critics might argue the hate is well-deserved, video doesn’t always tell the whole story. And rarely does lack of conflict make news.
In a recent session at Uluwatu during the CT’s stint in Bali, though, Surfers of Bali captured Gabriel yielding to fellow surfers and displaying common courtesy and restraint in the crowded lineup. A couple polite waves is way less exciting than a couple bad burns, I know. But, hey. Maybe Gabs gets a bad rap?
