Puerto Escondido isn’t known for being tame. Then again, neither is Gabriel Villaran. Recently, the two met in epic conditions and the result had us on the edge of our seats. These were the kind of conditions that gave Puerto Escondido its nickname: Mex Pipe. Clearly, it’s well earned.
On the heels of Shane Dorian’s incredible wave at the same spot, we highly recommend watching the two side-by-side. Both were filmed on the same day, which was, as Puerto tends to get, incredibly heavy.
So, which was heavier? We’ll let you be the judge of that…at least before the Billabong XXL judges make the official call.
