In his rookie season on tour, Griffin Colapinto was an early favorite to win Rookie of the Year. A few equal 13ths and 25ths on the back half of the year gave Wade Carmichael the upper hand in that battle. But, to follow up his Triple Crown of Surfing win last year, the 20-year-old San Clemente native came to Hawaii late last year with a commanding presence and an itch to scratch into some heavy waves.
