The Inertia

As a young Jersey Shore beach bum, I would always want to play in the ocean and the waves, whether it’d be boogie boarding, or body surfing. I never thought much of surfing up until about 13 years old, and from then on took over my life. At about 16, I bought my first camera with the money from working at a local surf shop in South Jersey, which is when my passion for it took off. Now, I’m 18 and couldn’t be happier with the decisions I made for myself. Being a surfer in New Jersey, the waves are for the most part small up until the temperatures start to turn down, and the thick wetsuits come on. To get the best waves and photographs, you need to be dedicated to be able to experience the best of what Jersey has to offer.

The most important and special aspect to me is photographing from the water. My ultimate goal is to create a unique perspective that people don’t see often. I feel as if surf photography nowadays is full of the same shots being recreated over and over and I try to stray away from that. That is why I mainly pay attention to what the light is doing before I shoot and go on from there, rather than just jumping right in.
