The Inertia

Wetsuits stink. It’s a universal truth that all surfers know is factually correct. Sure, you might be a person who cares for your wetsuits… for a while. But inevitably, you’re going to wind up leaving it in a stinking lump in the trunk for a little too long. You’re going to pee in it one too many times. If you are unlucky enough to require booties where you surf, those booties will eventually smell like the stench of a thousand buttholes. But you can do something about it. You can learn to properly care for your wetsuits.

For a few short months when I was in my early twenties, I worked in the back of a snowboard/surf shop. I mostly sharpened edges and washed rental wetsuits, which was disgusting. I’m not a germaphobe by any sense of the word, but scrubbing a stranger’s piss-stink from an old set of well-used wetsuit booties is… gross.

Thanks to Finisterre (makers of the finest wetsuit I’ve ever had the pleasure of yanking on), you have this handy little video to teach you how to properly do it. Don’t leave it in a wet lump. Don’t hang it in the glaring sun to dry. You’ll be happy you didn’t. Less stink, more years. Good things, right?
