The Inertia

From the Editor: Steve Sherman is an icon in the world of surf photography. His images helped solidify the foundation of Surfing magazine. Sherman, a North San Diego County local, started shooting in eighth grade with a hand-me-down camera. From there, he worked his way up to become one of the best surf lensman of all time, documenting the Momentum Generation, like Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, Kelly Slater, and the rest in a way no one had before. To say he has access is an understatement. Name anyone in the world of surf, and there’s a good chance “Sherm” has captured a still of them.

Yesterday, we asked Steve to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the WSL Finals at Lower Trestles. He came back with some gems, and we present them to you here. By now, you probably know the contest went off in perfect conditions, with a massive crowd lining the beach to witness the first-ever final event. But there was a whole lot more going on than just surfing. Steve Sherman was there for it. Enjoy.
