Italo Ferreira is very good at surfing. That’s stating the obvious, of course, but when I say very, I mean very. I saw him a while ago at Supertubos on a day that was touted as the day of the decade. It was right before the WSL event, so the lineup was full of pros getting their feet in the wax. Also, it was the day of the decade, so it’s likely that even if the the WSL contest wasn’t oiling up the starter’s gun, a lot of them would have been there anyway. Although many of the world’s best surfer were there, when Italo paddled out, it was clear he was on a different level. Everything for him seemed easier, from paddling out to getting insanely shacked.
Italo has spent plenty of time under the hood, and as anyone knows who’s been under said hood, it’s really, really hard to keep your composure — especially if there’s a surfboard flying at you as you’re navigating it. But Italo? No problem. He managed to sneak by an errant stick while on a recent trip to Indonesia, where he decided to go in between contests.
