Italo Ferreira isn’t exactly known for his big-wave exploits. He’s known more for his high-flying aerial surfing, power surfing, barrel surfing, and just about everything else, including a little thing called an Olympic Gold medal. But just because he’s not known for his big-wave surfing doesn’t mean he’s not into it.
The thing about Italo is this: if it’s a wave, he’s into it. Whether it’s big or small, cold or warm, if it’s a moving lump of energy in the ocean, he wants to be on it. So when he saw a very large swell heading towards Nazaré around about the time the WSL’s Portugal event kicked off… well, he decided to give it a go. It’s not the first time he’s done it, and judging from the smile on his face, we’d wager it won’t be the last.
