If you’re not from the North Shore and you happen to be surfing Pipeline, here’s a bit of advice: don’t drop in on John John Florence on a Backdoor wave. Or any wave, for that matter. Don’t drop in on anyone, in fact. It’s just a bad idea, for everyone’s safety. But if you’re from the North Shore and you are in the very small group of people who happen to be Jamie O’Brien… well, go right ahead.
In a recent session that included most of the best Pipe surfers on the North Shore — John, Jamie, Nathan Florence, Eli Olson, Mason Ho, etcetera, Jamie and John decided (we’re not sure if it was a one-sided decision, but it all worked out just fine) to party wave under the curtain. They make it look easy, but it was most definitely not.
