Jamie O'Brien surfing Off the Wall

The Inertia

Jamie O’Brien knows the waves of the North Shore well. He grew up there, after all, and cut his teeth on some of the best waves on the planet. Pipe, of course, is where his bread is buttered, but he’s not too good for other waves. Waves like Off the Wall.

Off the Wall is just a stone’s throw from Backdoor and Pipeline. It’s usually a little less crowded than Pipe, but it’s not less dangerous. Its reef is shallow and sharp, and relatively fickle. The right hand wedge does, on occasion, produce a fantastic barrel, but it can take a few beat downs before a surfer finds one.

Jamie, though, knows how to pick them. “Off the Wall was Pumping and while most surfers were at Pipe,” reads the video description on Off Da Lip’s YouTube page,“Jamie O’Brien and a few other pros set up over at OTW to patiently wait for some heavy nuggets.”
