The Inertia

The Volcom house is legendary in the world of surfing. The three-story house, located right in front of Pipeline, is famous for hosting not only the world’s hardest-charging surfers, but also Oahu’s wildest parties. In a recent podcast episode, North Shore mainstay Jamie O’Brien offered a peek behind the curtain at some of the property’s goings-on.

The moment came in an episode of “The Jamie O & Mason Ho Show,” where the titular pair spoke to Kaimana Henry, who has been the custodian of the Volcom house for going on two decades. After asking Henry to spill the details of what it’s really like to live in the eye of the storm, Jamie jumped in with a story of his own. He remembered one party in particular, where a bunch of guests actually kicked down the house’s gate after being ejected from the premises.

“I remember there’d be like crazy parties and we would be like, ‘All right, party’s over. Party’s over,’ and people would get all bummed and just sit out there and hang out inside the fence,” recalled O’Brien. “They get super mad that they can’t get in the Volcom house.”

However, things didn’t end there. “Then they would run up and just kick the freaking Volcom gate. Boom,” he continued. “Volcom gate freaking blows out. And then they just turn on the path and they just start running.”

Jamie and company were left stunned in the aftermath. “We were like, ‘Wait, what?’” he remembers “Like are you just bummed cause we kicked you out of the party? like go home, bro.’”

Henry backed up the veracity of O’Brien’s story, remembering that before the chaos, they had even even started to give the angry guests merch as a peace offering. “People were so bummed, we just started giving them cases of beer, just to leave. We were just like, ‘Bro, please, here’s a donation. Just please get out of here.’ And they came back and kicked the door down.”
