The Inertia

Is it just me or do you hear the saying “I want to start the New Year off right” too much over the holidays? “New Year, new me,” “Goodbye (insert departing year here), Hello (insert impending new year here).” You know all the clichés. Well, all clichés aside, New Jersey surfers really did get to kick off 2019 the right note. A New Year’s Day swell rolled in during the early morning and continued throughout the day with offshore winds. Oh, and by the way, it was 60 degrees out.

The lineup did seem empty at times. Unfortunately, some individuals missed out and didn’t start their new year off on a high. But for those who did make it out, they definitely took advantage of what 2019 had dropped. I chatted with a few surfers throughout the day and multiple people agreed, this was the best start to a New Year they’d ever had. Warm temperatures, solid surf, smiles all around, and a fresh start. What else could you ask for?
