Bells got off to a slow start. Poor conditions led to days of delays, and eventually forced the WSL to move the entire production to Winkipop. Once there, they were rewarded with… mediocre waves and more delays. Throughout all of that, Kanoa Igarashi was recording his experience of the event, as he presented in a new vlog post to YouTube.
The edit comes from an ongoing series of Igarashi’s, entitled “Eye of the Storm.” In it, he’s been recording not only his experience in the surf itself, but the behind-the-scenes moments that actually go into a stop on the tour. Last time, he took us on a guided tour of El Salvador for the Surf City El Salvador Pro. The Australian edition takes him on a sponsor-satisfying trip to the Quiksilver store, a warmup in bite-sized, but clean, Winkipop, and finally some actual competitive surfing.
It’s fairly drama-free, but also a refreshingly honest view of what life is like on the tour. Check out the full video below.
