Kauli Vaast and Teahupo’o are made for each other. Since he was a literal child, the Tahitian surfer has been almost synonymous with the notorious wave. It felt only natural when he qualified to represent France at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an event that will take him right back to his home break. In light of that, french fashion house Dior has tapped the young phenom to be their latest brand ambassador.

Though it may seem incongruous for a fashion house to sponsor a surfer, Dior has been known to dip its toe into the surfing world. Last year, they collaborated with Vissla to release a $3,300 wetsuit. Shortly after, they collaborated with French shaper Notox to design a $10,000 surfboard as part of their Fall 2023 line. Dior also has a history of sponsoring surfers, such as when Kanoa Igarashi was chosen to represent the brand ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

For his part, Kauli seems to be taking to the role naturally. He announced the partnership via an Instagram post of him sporting a navy Dior suit and a stoic look, writing, “Passion and dedication for my sport brings unique stories – proud to join the ultimate french fashion house Dior.”
