The Inertia

Kelly Slater has long had a respectful, open dialogue on social media with Flat Earthers. He’s willing to listen to their points, while they in turn are willing to listen to his. And both do have good points. The Earth very well could be flat. We just have no way of knowing. Until science proves otherwise or we’re somehow able to get far enough away from Earth to get a good look at the lay of the land, we’ll just have to be open to the possibility that Earth could very well be a disc with giant ice walls holding the ocean in.

What’s that you say? We DO have scientific evidence and we HAVE been far enough away? Oh. This is awkward.

Anyway, Kelly Slater has enough of a relationship with Flat Earthers that he named a surfboard for them. Shaped by Akila Aipa, son to the legendary Ben Aipa, the Flat Earth looks like one incredibly fun surfboard. According to Firewire, the Flat Earth was shaped by Aipa and dialed in by Slater.

“This project pushed me to get my design even more refined,” Akila explained. “That meant greater awareness to push the final product to its full potential by accentuating the concave, vee and double concaves then blend it all together with dimensions which will hopefully translate into user-friendly performance.”

In the video above, Kevin Schulz takes the board through its paces and drops a bit of knowledge along the way.
