In the world of surfing, two are more famous than the rest: Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina. Kelly Slater is the GOAT with 11 world titles to his name. With three world titles, Gabriel Medina is an absolute superstar — around the world, yes, but especially in Brazil. There, he’s reached a level of fame reserved for people like Neymar. Maybe not so famous as Pelé, but Medina is mega-famous. He’s also an investor in São Paulo’s Beyond the Club wave pool, and Kelly Slater joined him for a day of surfing its man-made waves.
Beforehand, they hung out for a while doing what super famous people do — posing for photos and trying to chat normally with each other as everyone hovered around them. Medina offered to gift Slater one of his Medininha surfboard for kids, since Kelly is now a father of two (three soon!)
The actual surfing went about as you’d expect when two of the best surfers ever paddle out. Everything was mind-blowing.
